Therapeutic Riding Workshop

Friday April 14 (1:00pm to 4:00pm)
Saturday April 15 (9:00am to 4:00pm)
Sunday April 16 (9:00am to 4:00pm)

Purpose of the Workshop

The purpose of the workshop is to provide the participants with knowledge of basic components that are utilized by successful, entry level therapeutic riding instructors. The participants will be given the opportunity to learn and apply this knowledge in role play and hands on sessions.

The participants will be provided with information concerning:

• Understanding Therapeutic Riding-Classification
• CanTRA Instructor Level Criteria (Check List)
• Instructor’s Liability
• Risk Management Procedures
• Teaching Techniques
• Disabilities -People First
• Intake Assessment Worksheet
• The Ideal Therapy Horse
• Equipment/Special Equipment used for Therapeutic Riding
• Rider Attire, Instructor/Volunteer Attire
• Volunteers -Recruitment, Training, Roles and Responsibilities
• Mounting and Dismounting
Participants will be provided with hands on participation in:
• Formulating and Writing Lesson Plans
• Developing Task Analysis
• Determining Progression
• Practice of When- What-How- Why
• Evaluation Posture
• Evaluating Horses
• Role Play Lesson

If participants are enrolled with the Cantra Instructor Certification Program they will receive mentorship hours for the time that they attend at the workshop only. They will need to bring their Cantra membership number. Equestrian Canada Instructors can also use this workshop for Professional Developmental hours. They will also need their EC COACH card #
